why we experience anxiety:

Anxiety is a normal emotion. As the limbic system in human’s brain evolved, it ensured the ability to experience a full spectrum of emotions for survival. Indeed, it is advantageous to experience some level of anxiety. Think back to our early days. When interfacing with potential threat, the limbic system mounted a response that began with anxiety and fear, prompting fight or flight. Fast forward to present: You have a deadline for a presentation at work in a week and need a polished product. Normal levels of anxiety propel you to perform. But too much anxiety can have the opposite effect and stop you in your tracks.
